How does webFiche get the reports into the server?

WebFiche consists of three areas of functionality.

  • Harvester: This part of the system is responsible to get the reports/data/digital content assets into the server. It does this by utilizing the Hosts’ node and directory location form where the reports/data are to be harvested. This information is specified by the Administrator. All the specified files (like * for all files, *.txt for txt files and so on) are harvested.
  • User Navigation: This functionality is the user interface. Users can view reports/data by Report or by Date. When “by report” mode is chosen a calendar of hyperlinked dates, on which that particular report is available, appears. Clicking on any hyperlinked date will display the report.
  • When “by date” mode is chosen a list of authorized folders is displayed. When a folder is selected, all the avaiable reports within that folder, are listed as hyperlinks clicking which, will display the report, while those that are unavailable appear in red color.
  • Administration: An administrator has nearly 15 different functions to manage the system such as Harvest Administration, Harvest Request, Folder Administration, User Administration, Remote Node Administration and Calendar Administration etc. This should give a good idea of the extensive functionality that is available within webFiche for the administrators and the Computer Operations Staff.
